S and C were the winners of a engagement session giveaway last year and I was so excited when they booked me for their wedding.

S & C wanted a winter wedding in the mountains and were married at Rafter Six Ranch near Canmore. We were so lucky
with a picture perfect day and even snuck into town for some ice skating and hockey. Here are a few sneaks.

The girls all looked like they were floating as they glided on the ice!

I have been in an editing vortex all day.
I can barely see the screen anymore, my eyes are bulging and probably red. Happily red though because it means
that there are a lot of people out there with galleries to look at and now this blog post to share.

You might remember Dominique and Jaime from their engagement session or their sneak.
We kinda float in the same circles in Canmore and have a lot of mutual friends. I was very honored to be a part of their wedding day.
I was also very lucky to have a second shooter with me. The same second shooter who shot my wedding. It was awesome.

The day before D & J’s October 9th wedding a big snow storm hit. No big surprise being in the mountains and all.
Still if you are getting married it would be nice if it cleared up and it did. It cleared into one of those days that you just dream of being your wedding day.
These two are used to winter, in fact they kinda chase winter with Jaime being a member of the National Biathlon Team, the snow seemed fitting.
Fresh snow on yellow leaves and a clear blue sky. It was totally divine.

Dominique you are a ravishing bride.

The next collection were taken by Dana, she did a rad job with the boys.
Jaime’s family is Scottish and all the boys in the family wore their kilts for the event.

Dominique & Jaime chose to see each other before the ceremony. I love it when couples do this.
It gives us so much more time to relax as well as better light. Especially now that it gets dark so early!

This was such a fun moment. Jaime was so excited and it was exciting watching him leap up off the bench to see his bride.
*They chose this spot along a creek where they were engaged, I love it when events are tied together.

The ceremony was held at the Nordic Centre, the reception at Silvertip Resort.

This is also Dana’s. I was so glad to have her with me to capture things that I would have been to busy to catch.
The room was beautifully decorated.

The Emcee’s were pretty funny.

Dominique studied music and as a special surprise sang a song to Jaime.

I have never before seen so many guys get up to catch the garder… it must have to do with their competitiveness, it was a close call.

Two weddings left this year! Stay tuned!

Max & Michelle Married :: Canmore, Alberta Wedding Photographer ::

Max & Michelle are marvelous. I posted a sneak peak forever ago and said that this was one of my favorite weddings of the year.
It really was. I only spent a few hours photographing them but sincerely, the love and respect and humour that poured out of these two and
their family and friends was overflowing. I know that you’ll be able to tell through the images. It’s so obvious!

I first met Max and Michelle when they travelled to Brooks for their engagement session.
They travelled to Brooks for their engagement session!
How cool is that! They were easy to photograph then and their wedding was a whole other level of photogenic-ness.

I loved the music they chose for their ceremony. Michelle sent me a copy of the Alexi Murdoch CD a few weeks ago and it’s still on repeat.
The best part was when the cue came for them to exit and “You are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne belted loudly from the speakers.
That was Geordie and my exit song. Not a common exit song. My heart was so warmed by these great music loving people!

Without further ado…this is a bit of a long post.

Max was so at ease getting ready and Michelle’s brothers were working on hard on their ties. I love this moment.

My favorite moment of the day. I love watching the groom watch the bride but Max’s brother watching Max is a close second.

The wedding took place at Nakoda Lodge. It’s known to be windy there. It was a little windy that day. What a spectacular location though.

Max & Michelle included their siblings on their own sides so it was a mishmash of boys and girls and these two were paired at the end.
I love it when family is so valuably included into the ceremony.

Boys do seem to have a need to climb things. I don’t think they ever grow out of it. Nor should they.

They said they weren’t photogenic. Sure.

No words needed…

I was really lucky to be a part of Max & Michelle’s day. It was a happy day and there is nothing that I love more than a good old fashioned day of love and happiness.
Forever and ever.

On a scale of one – dork, I probably rank up there high on the dork side. That’s just me though, kinda dorky.
Geordie will smile and nod at this, but I know he likes me all the same.

On a dorky note, I have posted a photo of myself today. I wanted to share an item that I’m so pumped about.
(No it’s not the mustard pants… but they’re not dorky right, right?)
It’s my wicked awesome thread scarf that I picked up in the summer during ArtSpeak in Canmore.
The artist who made it is Guilia Fatica and you can find more of them at her Etsy store.
I have already bought another one as a gift for a friend and it may be what everyone finds under the tree from me this Christmas.
Today is my first day really rocking the scarf and I have received so many compliments on it already (and who doesn’t love compliments??)
So it’s on my love list. Along with my new haircut by the totally briliant Crystal Kamenka at Vermelho in Canmore.

It’s been an great week and I have had some fabulous sessions, one that ended in a hamburger soup lunch! Hello! That goes on the list too.
I made it to Canmore on Tuesday and that was the total best part of my week. I love coming home and seeing my family and
one of my favorite parts of coming home is the first 2 hours after I have stepped in the door. It goes something like this.
Hug, hug, hug…. we’re big huggers. Then we get comfy on the couch or the floor by the fire place with a glass of
wine (I usually get here in the evenings!) and spend the next few hours catching up, all attention on each other. It’s my favorite.

That’s my good loving news for the week.

Perrens :: Canmore, Alberta Portrait Photographer ::

I grew up next to the Perrens my whole life. Heidi, Meredith, Alex and my brother, Matthew, and I have been known
to be in a rock band together in our younger, formative years. (Matthew on a cardboard guitar and us girls in matching jean skirts, of course.)
We have shared lemonade stands throughout our childhood and played ‘house’ like it was going out of style, all summer long.
Matthew and I were in and out of Chris and Peters house all of the time. When we kids decided to build our own home, in the
form of a snow castle on the font lawn in February, Peter was the one who stayed out with us all night for our ‘fun’ sleepover.
We don’t see each other as often anymore but they are some of the best people I know. May I add that the day of Geordie and my wedding
all the Perrens plus Mark and Colin (Heidi & Meredith’s men) were moving chairs, stringing decorations and tying ribbons.
They just showed up! The day after the wedding they were there when we got home, taking it all down.

Neighbors. are. the. best.

These were taken in 15 mins the day after our wedding, it’s not easy to have everyone home at the same time anymore!
We had to include Mark & Colin! Our childhood troupe is expanding!

Oh Alex your mustache is so fabulous. Doesn’t he wear it well!
Alex was the magician extraordinaire at our wedding. He likes juggling with fire, riding his unicycle and long walks on the beach.

Meredith & Colin. I just met Colin and was so glad to finally meet him.
Neighborhood news travels fast and I had heard good things.
p.s All of them true.

Heidi & Mark! So rad. I wish we all lived closer.

I can’t remember if they were laughing at me or someone behind me. Hmmm.
By the way, Chris is an extraordinary quilter and gave Geordie & I an amazing quilt as a wedding gift.
If you’re in Canmore October 18th it will be hanging at the Seniors Centre for the Quilt Show.

The Trough :: Canmore, Alberta Photographer ::

Have you ever eaten at The Trough in Canmore?
You should. Seriously.
It kinda blows your taste buds minds. They serve up a delicious Moscato before you start your meal and it only gets better from there.
I don’t want to ruin the surprise. It’s where people eat. That’s their tag line, which I totally dig.

I’ve talked about The Trough way back when I photographed the owners, Mike and Rosie who by the way I have a massive friends crush on.
I’ve known them since I was little and not only do they have good taste in food, wine and decor they’re also a strong source for good tunes.

They called me to do a big staff portrait for them. I had a pretty great time and got to shimmy them around and make them drag
chairs and pitchforks out for me. Here’s my favorite. Wouldn’t you want to eat at a place where people laughed this much!?

Yes! I got a little facelift. Not me personally.

This new blog is just what I needed going into winter, something fresh with a little more style and a lot more options.
I need options for the winter time. NOT that I am prematurely calling this cold weather winter. I know better than that. I am just planning ahead that’s all.
Out with the old and in with the new! Like last week when I washed the walls in my house and went on a full blown spider attack; dismantling their old webs and shooing them out! Of course there were sparkly new webs in clean corners the next day…. (a little off topic.)

While I continue my war on spiders before they get too comfortable in my house, here is a sneak from one of my most favorite weddings of the year.
(I’ll explain why soon) Max and Michelle are pretty radical and well… gorgeous. A little teaser.
